Absolutely inspirational!
michelleewan11 November 2013
This documentary shows one man's quest to complete the coveted "100 Man Kumite" ! It provides background into the life of Shihan Judd Reid, from starting out in karate as a teenager, covers the time he spent as an "Uchi Dechi" in Japan, to his life of competing - which includes achieving World Champion status in his late 30's and of course, teaching at the WKO in Pattaya, Thailand. It takes you "Rocky Balboa" style, through some of the extensive training Judd had to undertake, in preparation to take up the challenge of fighting 100 Black belts, one at a time continuously, without a break! He is a very soft spoken, very humble man, who feels he's been so lucky to have been able to live his life dedicated to karate and this is reflected in the documentary. A truly inspiring piece I would recommend to anyone looking for that extra edge to help them achieve their goals in life, whether in martial arts or any walk of life. As the man himself says, "Never, ever give up!"

"Journey to the 100 Man Fight the Judd Reid Story", What a great film!!!

I just received and watched the "Journey to the 100 Man Fight the Judd Reid Story", what a fantastic documentary!

The direction and cinematography are very high quality which can be somewhat rare for this style of film. This is an extremely well done documentary about this man's journey to complete this incredibly difficult contest! It captures not only his heart and his never give up attitude, but also that he is a humble man who knows want honor and budo are all about. Not only does this film show that he is one tough dude but he also comes across as a nice guy, he is a great role model for people of all ages.

I would strongly encourage anyone to get this film; it has some fine lessons in it about how hard work and dedication can truly pay off if you're willing to make the sacrifice.

Amazing film for Karate buffs, as well as anyone else.

I watched this on Vimeo, and even ordered the DVD as well. It's something I now show people whenever I'm trying to explain Kyokushin Karate to them. It's short, but hard-hitting, and to-the-point. If you don't know who Judd Reid is, no matter. He will earn your respect by the end of this film. The 100 man Kumite is something only even attempted by world champions, many of who have gone on to develop their own brand of Kyokushin Karate, such as Kancho Matsui, and Kenji Yamaki. The humble, soft-spoken Master Reid is an athletic wonder, even at the age of 43. This film, for me, is as inspirational as it gets.

Osu!

Everyone should watch this inspiring story and journey of Shihan Judd Reid, from his beginnings in martial arts to the pinnacle of his career, get a look a the man and the true meaning of martial arts , Judd is an inspiration to all. I have been involved in martial arts for many years and have never seen someone train like Judd. His endurance in Thailand is phenomenal, especially when he cross trains with various other martial artists from varied backgrounds. And having one of the toughest instructors at the Honbu. An incredible feat of endurance and skill. Judd Reid should be an inspiration to all current and budding martial artist. Osu.

You do not have to practice martial arts to appreciate this film. I no longer do, and my wife certainly don't.

We cannot however, remember watching a more enjoyable (or unforgettable) documentary. We BOTH absolutely loved this.

Detailing an incredible journey of dedication, spirit and triumph, 100 MAN FIGHT is inspiring stuff. One of those films you watch - then can't get out your head the next day. An amazing story that makes you want to try harder in life, whatever your goals.

Good on you Judd Reid - tough as hell.

Inspirational!

The word "inspirational" has been used a lot in reviews of this documentary, but with good cause.

I've been a martial artist for many years and have watched many movies and documentaries, but this is one of the best for showing the sheer determination, dedication and stamina it takes to complete a feat such as the 100 Man Kumite.

The only thing I have more of than Shihan Judd Reid is age! I have been inspired to train harder than ever before, push that bit further and certainly to never, EVER, give up.

Time for another cliché... If you only ever watch one martial arts documentary, then make it this one!

Inspirational !!!

This is the most inspirational documentary I've seen in a long time. Its a video for all types of people not just martial artists documenting the life of Judd Reid prior to and during his 100 man fight in Japan.

The documentary follows Judd Reid though his preparation for the 100 man fight in Thailand. It goes back an interviews his original instructor in Australia and many of his friends including Nicholas Pettas, former live in student of Mas Oyama.

I have watched this with my wife and friends from different walks in life and they have all taken something away. At least three of my friends have started training at the gym and getting healthy again - this is the kind of inspiration I found it to contain.

Could be a good documentary for teenage kids who may not be as receptive to parents and teachers and teaches to never ever give up.

Highly recommended to watch and add to your favorite list.

What a great and inspiring movie. Judd Reid has truly given himself to the Martial Arts and Karate. From start to finish this movie shows a young mans lifetime journey into the Martial Arts. Both as a lifelong student and now a teacher. I enjoyed watching his training regiment(s) the power of his strikes and kicks. To continue to train as hard as he does for so many years is true discipline and commitment. He shows what hard work, seat and blood can accomplish. Im very grateful to have the opportunity to watch this film. This is also a wonderful film to watch at any age if one is interested in Karate or the Martial Arts. Makes me want to train even harder. This is a amazing story of Budo.

One man's step into the unknown
kjjames8128 October 2014
The first thing i noticed was the short running time, less than 1 hour, but i heard so much about this film that i had to see it. We first meet Judd Reid as he is now and the film goes back in time slightly to when he was asked to enter the 100 man kumite, very few people have actually been asked to do this as you have to fight closely for 3 hours non stop, not everyone is able to do this.

Judd enters this and does what few men have done before him. As i watched the film,, the main things that stood out were how easy going Judd (for a big and dangerous guy) is and a natural in front of the camera. The team that are filming him are fun to be around.

When the kumite comes, we see not all of the fights otherwise the film would be on for a long time but the snip bits we get the fights are hard and brief.

After the fight we see Judd pressing into his bruised leg and the indentations staying there.

I came away from this film noticing that it was as much as a physical fight for Judd as well as a spiritual one.

If you real life documentary's then you should love this, one of the best i have seen.

Inspired!

Thanks for the insight into the level of commitment, dedication and over all mental toughness required to undertake such a torrid physical challenge. I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to see inside the workings of some truly legendary figures in martial arts dojos/dojangs/clubs, and with that the multitude of training and diverse training techniques they utilise and provide their students.

As a martial arts student with my own challenges ahead, the 100 man fight has certainly inspired me to work as hard as ever to achieve my own goals, thanks Judd Reid.

From the day I ordered it, to four days later when I received it I couldn't wait to see it. 58 minutes later. Wow

A must for ALL athletes.

Very inspiring, a must watch

A must watch documentary for not just martial artists but any sports enthusiast. A fantastic story and very inspiring to see someone dedicate so much of their life to one pursuit. To see athlete nearly at 40years old accomplish what Shihan Judd did is amazing.

It was great to see a lot of the story told by friends and family, to show their point of view and opinions not just through the eyes of the athlete. It showed the human side of Judd too, not sensationalised as one might expect. This made it so much easier to connect with the audience. The footage and old photos were a great part of the documentary, seeing the evolution of Judd and the maturity and humble nature of a man that has achieved so much. I definitely recommend this documentary
